Do you know someone who’s a spiritually dead man walking?
(He can’t see it).
The dead man walking is that person (professing Christian or not) who believes that they possess some merit, or believes that they did something…which made them right with God.
While God has made His elect to understand that: “There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Therefore, “you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” so, “by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous” and we shout for joy in thanksgiving to God in that “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified”
The answer of the saint,
“no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”
Now here’s the opposite of that, (indicators of a dead man walking):
Someone who thinks that their repentance of sins contributed to their being saved.
Someone who thinks that they’re getting holier.
Someone who thinks that they keep any element of the law.
Someone who thinks that they’re saved because they gave their life to Christ (or because of anything that they have done).
Someone who thinks that they’re saved because they’ve repeated a prayer, been baptized, or is active in religion.
Someone who thinks that they’re right with God because of some charitable or moral actions on their part.
Someone who thinks that they’re a basically good person.
Natural man will frequently claim Christ, but he will ultimately put stock in his self, or in something that he did.
That’s a spiritually dead man walking.
All glory to the risen Lord Jesus Christ, and no glory to us whatsoever
