Good mornin to you, and thank you for sharing some of your valuable time with me to consider this vital topic of salvation.
How many times have you heard someone say in regard to their salvation testimony, “I gave my life to Christ?”
(Or some other “I did something” salvation testimony)
“I got baptized”
“I repented of my sins”
“I said the sinner’s prayer”
“I joined the church”
“I was raised in a Christian family“
I ___, I ___, I ___
While that sort of thinking sounds right to the natural mind as the correct way of salvation, in reality that’s “religion’s” way of salvation; that’s false salvation.
Why is that? It’s because that’s a faith which is based in one’s activities or perceived merit, (which is the broad way that leads to destruction that’s warned about in Matthew 7.13).
What “life” could we possibly give to Christ for us to be saved anyway? Because all any of us have prior to God regenerating us is a spiritually dead life. And no one has ever been saved by giving their spiritually dead life to God.
We receive spiritual life as a free gift from God, we don’t generate it or merit it, (nor could we).
[Dedication to Jesus Christ is good & right. But it must be understood that that’s service to God, not a means of salvation].
When God saves a spiritually dead lost sinner, He draws us to Himself by making us painfully aware of our sin guilt.
In our natural unregenerate state, all of us are truly guilty in our sins, and we are rightfully hellbound. Thus in legitimate salvation, we approach Jesus Christ to receive His mercy and forgiveness of our sin guilt.
God the Holy Ghost gives His elect both the desire and the faith to receive both forgiveness of our sins, and Jesus Christ’s perfection as our own perfection. (Entirely as a free gift to us by grace through faith, by the obedience of one).
The entirety of the Christian’s rightstanding before God was fully accomplished in the Lord Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. And thus to know God, to possess eternal life, is to look upon the Son of God & rest in His finished work.
(Always pray for God to give you discernment before you read His word).
So please prayerfully read the following scripture verses which pertain to salvation, and be reconciled unto God:
7 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.“
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.“
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
14 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.“
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
Ephesians 2.5, & 8-10
5 “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)”
8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.“
1 Corinthians 15.1-4
1 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:“
9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.“
Below is a little sampling of what God quickened unto my spirit along with Christ having been formed in me.
My intention in sharing this with you is to encourage you to not only press in and embrace that you deserve to go to hell, but to also embrace the free gift of the righteousness of God.
(Embracing both of those truths are counterintuitive to the natural mind).
(I love the truth found in those verses, because by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Amen!)
