[This post is about people who’ve tasted of the heavenly gift, have understood the gospel, and then want nothing to do with Jesus & the bible, (sometimes while claiming to be a Christian). This sort of sin is the spitting in God’s face].
Imagine this from a personal perspective if you will…
God loves you so much that He allowed the murder of His only begotten Son to pay for your sins so that you could be accepted into His family. And your response to His gift is: “Yes, I understand it, I even tried it for a while. But to be honest, I’m no longer interested, and I’m ashamed to publicly identify with Jesus.”
Now with that preface, consider the meaning in the following verses please:
(Notice how God will refuse to answer those who refused Him)
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
(Notice how Jesus will deny those before the Father who denied Him before men)
32 “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.“
(Notice how blaspheming the Holy Ghost is unforgivable)
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
(Notice how God gives people over to a reprobate mind who don’t like to retain God in their knowledge)
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
(Notice how the terror of the Lord and judgement is the valid reason for someone to come to Christ to be saved)
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
(Notice how reprobates will claim to belong to God)
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
(Notice how God limits the time of His calling a person, and a person can harden their heart to His calling)
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
(Notice how once a person has been enlightened to salvation, and then falls away, that they can not be renewed again unto repentance. This is the scenario that I described at the beginning of this post).
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
(Notice the wrath of God that this sin of rejecting Christ brings)
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
(Notice how people’s apostasy is the proof that they were never actually born again in the first place)
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
(Notice how that once God shuts a door, no man can open it)
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
(Modern bible version people, beware. Notice how altering God’s word brings damnation)
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
If you’re a born again Christian, you are safe and sound in Christ. However if you’re not, you have plenty of reason to be terrified of the judgement that awaits you.
All glory to the risen Lord Jesus Christ!
And no glory to us whatsoever!
